Privacy Policy
Effective July 2026
Nota is a place to keep the things you want to remember. Your data is yours, and this policy explains plainly what we collect, why, and what happens to it.
What we collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address. When you use Nota, we store the content you choose to save: the text of your notes, titles, tags and categories, the places and locations you attach, the photos you attach to notes, and the collections you organize them into. If you contact us, we keep that correspondence. We do not store your precise device location. When you capture a note that refers to a place, your approximate location may be used momentarily to improve place matching, and is discarded immediately — it is never saved to your notes or our servers. Places in Nota are attached based on what you save, not tracked in the background.
How your data is used
Your data is used to provide Nota: storing and syncing your notes, organizing them, and powering search and sharing. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the app working.
AI processing
To organize your notes — suggesting categories, tags, and locations — the text of a note is sent to Claude, an AI service by Anthropic, when you capture it. That text is used only to return the organization for your note. We use Anthropic's commercial API, whose terms state that inputs and outputs are not used to train their models.
When you capture a screenshot or photo to save a place, the image is sent to our AI provider to extract the place information and is then discarded — we do not store those images on our servers. Photos you choose to attach to a note are different: those are stored privately in your account until you delete them, and are never shared with other users unless you explicitly share the collection they're in.
Where it's stored and how it's protected
Your account and notes are stored on Supabase infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is restricted by row-level security so that no other user can access your notes. Your notes are private to your account and are never shared with others unless you explicitly choose to share them.
Note content is not end-to-end encrypted. This means we can process it to provide features like search, organization, and AI tagging — but we never read your notes for marketing, and we never sell them.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect your information.
International data transfers
Nota is operated from the United States. If you access the service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Sharing and public links
When you share a collection or list, Nota creates a link. Anyone who has that link can view the shared notes in a browser, without an account — that's the point of sharing, so share links only with people you intend to. The shared copy reflects what you shared at that time. Recipients who claim shared notes into their own account receive their own copies, which you do not control after claiming.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Nota, each receiving only what's needed for its job: Supabase (database, authentication, and storage), Claude by Anthropic (note organization, as described above), Vercel (hosting for shared-link pages), and Expo (app build and update delivery). When payments launch, purchases will be processed by Apple, and we will receive only non-identifying transaction records — never your payment details. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
What we never do
We never sell your personal data. We never share your notes, your email, or anything identifiable about you with advertisers or data brokers. We do not show ads inside Nota. We do not read your notes for marketing purposes. No one can buy access to you, your account, or your content — full stop!
Aggregate insights
What we may do is publish, license, or share aggregated, de-identified trend information — things like "saves of pizza places in Brooklyn rose this month." These insights are built from patterns across many users, are never about any individual, and cannot reasonably be linked back to you, your account, or your notes. We commit to never attempting to re-identify de-identified data, and we require the same of anyone who receives it. Your individual data is never part of any sale, in any form.
Business transfers
If Nota is acquired by or merged with another company, or if Main Island Ventures LLC sells or transfers its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy, and any acquirer will be bound by the commitments in this policy — including that your individual data is never sold and de-identified data is never re-identified.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual notes or collections at any time, and you can delete your account directly in the app. If you need help, you can also request deletion by emailing us; we will complete account deletion requests within 30 days. We may retain certain information longer where required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Deleted data may persist briefly in encrypted backups before being purged on a rolling basis.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data at any time. Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA, UK, and California), you may have additional legal rights to your data, such as the right to access or portability — email us and we'll honor them regardless of where you live.
Children
Nota is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date at the top and note the change on this page. Continued use of Nota after a change means the updated policy applies.
Deletion and questions
Nota is a product of Main Island Ventures LLC. This website and the Nota application are owned and operated by Main Island Ventures LLC. You may delete your account at any time within the Nota app. For privacy questions or other inquiries, contact us at contact@notacapture.app.
